If you’ve ever tried updating your mobile number in your Aadhaar card, you probably remember the long queues, the form-filling, and the wait that felt longer than expected. I still remember standing outside an Aadhaar center in the heat, hoping the token number would move faster. Those experiences made many people avoid the update process altogether.
But 2025 has brought a refreshing change. UIDAI has launched a new mobile application that finally makes the entire update process possible from home. No rushing to a center, no taking leave from work, no unnecessary stress – just a phone in your hand and a few simple steps.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through every part of the journey, just the way I experienced it myself, so you can update your mobile number easily and confidently.
Downloading the New Aadhaar Application
The first step is straightforward. Open the Play Store and search for Aadhaar. You’ll find UIDAI’s new official app, which is currently in beta. Download it just like any other app on your phone.
Once you open it for the first time, the app will ask for basic permissions. Allow them so the features work smoothly. After that, tap on the Discover option, follow the prompts, and you’re ready to move ahead.
Logging in with Your Aadhaar
On the login page, choose I am ready with my Aadhaar. Enter your 12 digit Aadhaar number, scroll through the terms and conditions, tap I Agree and then Proceed.
Now you’ll see a SIM selection option. This part surprised me the most – the app does not require your old mobile number to be active. Even if your earlier number no longer works, you can still log in using a new SIM. Choose the SIM you want to use and tap Send SMS to verify it.
Face Authentication Process
After SIM verification comes face authentication. Tap Continue to Face Authentication and position your face in the frame. Make sure you are in good lighting and avoid wearing sunglasses or caps. You get three attempts, and it usually works within the first or second try.
Once the scan is successful, tap Proceed.
Setting Up Your Login PIN
To make the app more secure, you need to create a 6 digit PIN. Enter the PIN twice to confirm it. After that, you’ll land on the main dashboard. Here you’ll see your Aadhaar card details along with a QR code.
How to Update Your Mobile Number
Scroll down and tap on My Aadhaar Update. This section allows you to update various details like name, address, email, and of course, mobile number. Updating your mobile number requires a fee of ₹75.
You’ll now see your existing number and a field where you can enter your new number. Type the new number and tap Send OTP. You’ll receive an OTP on your new phone – enter it and verify.
Second Face Authentication
After OTP verification, the app will ask for face authentication again. Repeat the same process. Keep your face clear, follow the on screen guidelines, and complete the verification.
Paying the ₹75 Fee
Once everything is verified, you’ll be directed to the payment page. The app uses Razorpay, so you can pay through UPI, credit card, debit card, net banking, or wallet. I personally found UPI the fastest.
After successful payment, your request will be submitted instantly.
Confirmation and Receipt
You’ll receive an acknowledgement slip inside the app. This slip contains your new mobile number and a reference ID. Save or download it for future use.
How to Check Update Status
To track your update status, go to the Services section inside the app. Most updates take around 2 to 3 working days. Sometimes it’s even faster depending on verification speed.
Conclusion
With UIDAI’s new mobile application, updating your mobile number in your Aadhaar card has become one of the easiest online processes in India. No more long lines, no more waiting outside centers, no more paperwork. All you need is the app, your Aadhaar number, your phone, and a few minutes of your time.
It’s reassuring to know that the process is not only simple but also highly secure with double face authentication and OTP verification. I genuinely found the experience smooth, and I hope this guide makes it even easier for you.
